Abstract

This paper will focus on one of the rulings Judge Cecilia Medina Quiroga worked on: the 2009 González et al. («Cotton Field») V. Mexico case. Special attention will be paid to one of the aspects addressed in the ruling: gender stereotypes, using the gender perspective tool which will allow us to delve deeper into the articulation of these aspects with the patriarchal system and, finally, into one of the harms to the rights of women and girls caused by their use in the argumentation of a decision: the right to be judged by an impartial tribunal.
