Rules for authors
Manuscript format and preparation
Length: the text must be approximately 12-15 pages long (between 8,000-10,000 words), letter paper size, single-spaced format, font size 12, with all graphs, charts, diagrams, footnotes, and bibliographical references placed in the text.
Languages: submitted articles may be written in Spanish and Portuguese. Submissions are published in their original language.
Abstract and Keywords: a submitted article must have an abstract on the first page (no more than 100 words) summarizing the purposes and most relevant conclusions, and three keywords which are not mentioned on the title, for bibliographic indexing purposes.
Biographical Statement: information about the authors must be included as a footnote on the first page. It must contain the following data: a brief resume of the author (s) including nationalities, titles and/or academic degrees, current professional performance and/or affiliation and their e-mail address, for possible communication between the readers and the authors.
Versions: two versions of the submitted article must be sent. One version must include the author’s information. The second version must be anonymous and titled the same as the first version. Bibliographical references to previous texts by the author must be modified with the line AUTHOR’S TEXT on the second version and all editorial information stated on the bibliography.
The articles can be accompanied by photographs related to the work being presented. These must be presented in high quality (600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for color) in jpg or png format, both embedded in the manuscript where appropriate and also attached independently in the email.
Graphic material whose information is subject to copyright should not be included without having previously obtained the respective written permission. This permission must be detailed in a note at the end of these.
Young researchers: the Editorial Committee welcomes works submitted by researchers under 30 years old, in order to encourage and support emerging research careers.
Bibliographical references: include only the texts cited in the work. Use APA 7th Edition standards to cite bibliographical references, graphs, or tables. It is the authors' responsibility to cite correctly.
How to cite a thesis in APA style
When you have a print or digital copy of an unpublished thesis work, or the thesis work is part of a university library collection, it should be cited as follows:
- Author, A.A. (Year). Unpublished thesis. University, City, Country.
How to cite a book in APA
When it is a book written by a single author, it should be cited as follow, adding the corresponding reference data:
- Author, A.A. (Year). Title of the book. (Edition-if available). Place of publication: Publisher.
How to cite a book chapter in APA style
If you only need to cite the chapter of a book, use the following format:
- Author, A.A., & Author, B.B. (Year). Title of the chapter. In A.Editor & B.Editor (Eds.), Title of the book (pp.xx-xx). Place of publication: Publisher.
How to cite a journal in APA style
According to the APA standards, periodical literature such as journals, should be cited as follows:
- Author, A.A., Author, B.B. & Author, C.C. (Year, day, and month for daily, weekly, or monthly publications). Title of the article. Title of the journal, volume, (issue), xx-xx.
How to cite an online article in APA style
Electronic sources can be valid sources of reference as long as they are properly cited. Find some examples of how to cite sources taken from the Internet. For instance, if you want to cite an article from a database, you should do as follows:
- Author, A.A., & Author, B.B. (Year). Title of the article. Title of the journal, volume, (issue), xx-xx. Retrieved day/month/year/database.
On the other hand, any article which does not have any, or lacks, information about the author or any other kind of essential information should be cited as follows:
- (n.d). Retrieved day/month/year/URL.
How to cite an online journal article in APA
- Author, A.A., & Author, B.B. (Year-if available). Title of the article. Title of the journal, issue-if available, (number-if available). Retrieved day/month/year, URL.
Manuscript submissions
Articles must be addressed to the Director of the journal to revistaultimadecada@facso.cl, as an attached Word (.doc or .docx) file. The file must be named: name and last name of the first author.
Reviews
The reviews received may be about publications, books, magazines, movies, theater and musical plays, and any material that allows the development of a reflection on youth, young people, and youth-related matters. The work reviewed must not be more than 3 years old at the time of publication.
Review submission: the same guidelines indicated for articles.
Review length: between 1,000 and 3,000 words.
Reviews must contain:
- An introduction to the reviewed work in order to contextualize further discussion.
- Comments on the content of the reviewed work, highlighting its contribution in different fields – theoretical, methodological, epistemological, etc., in a well-argued manner.
- A critical summary and assessment of the reviewed work.
