Anti-vaccines in Mexico as a protest system

Authors

Abstract

The article analyzes whether the anti-vaccine movements in Mexico during the COVID crisis can be considered protest systems. The intention is to focus on the protests registered by different Mexican mass media in August 2021, where various groups, among which “Médicos por la verdad México” stand out, took to the streets to express their disagreement regarding vaccination. The article is organized into five sections: 1. Language, 2. Symbolically generalized media, 3. Code, institutionalization of the no, and social systems, 4. The no of protest and 5. Anti-vaccine movements in Mexico as protest systems. At the end of the article a conclusion is presented where the important contribution that Niklas Luhmann makes to the study of protest is emphasized, based on the idea of complexity.
