Aymara spoken in Chilean Region of Arica and Parinacota

Abstract

This research, carried out within the framework of the research project"Sociolinguistic reality of Aymara language spoken in northern Chile", aimed at fi nding out the actual use of Aymara language amongAymaras, and their descendants, living in Arica and Parinacota, soas to determine its vitality and the demography of their speakers. Tothis end, a questionnaire was administered in situ to a representativesample of Aymaras of the above mentioned cities. The gathereddata show an impending loss of this South American indigineouslanguage.
